Pharmaceutical analysis

The particle size distribution of active ingredients and excipients is an important physical characteristic of the materials used to create pharmaceutical products. The size, distribution and shape of the particles can affect bulk properties, product performance, processability, stability and appearance of the end product.

The link between particle size and product performance is well documented with regards to dissolution, absorption rates and content uniformity. Reducing particle size can aid the formulation of NCE’s with poor water solubility. Proper matching of active ingredient and excipient particle size is important for several process steps. Particle size analysis is an integral component of the effort to formulate and manufacture many pharmaceutical dosage forms. HORIBA Instruments can provide both the analytical tools and technical support required to help pharmaceutical companies characterize their particulate systems with confidence.

Watch a two minute video detailing how HORIBA Scientific has partnered with Particle Sciences to provide world-class technology and support for their CDMO business.

Laser Diffraction

This is the most popular particle size analysis technique used in the pharmaceutical industry. This technology is fast, easy to use, flexible, and repeatable. The LA-960 Laser Diffraction Particle Size Analyzer offers unique advantages including:

  • Dynamic range from 10 nanometers – 5,000 microns
  • Automatic control of powder flow rate with the PowderJet accessory leads to repeatable dry measurements
  • Built-in USP 429 calculations

Laser Diffraction Application: Biopolymer Nanoparticles used for Drug Delivery

Biodegradable polymers such as polylactic acid (PLA) are frequently studied as potential carriers for controlled release formulations of active pharmaceutical. Since PLA nanoparticles are often in the range of 50 – 500 nm using both laser diffraction and dynamic light scattering (DLS) could be used for size analysis, but laser diffraction has the advantage of also being able to detect aggregates above 1 micron. The unique ability measure particles down to 30 nanometers and up to 5,000 microns makes the LA-960 uniquely qualified to measure the entire range of biopolymer nanoparticles used for drug delivery.

Download Application Note 196: Particle Size Analysis of Biopolymer Nanoparticles using Laser Diffraction (You need to be logged in).

Laser Diffraction Case Studies: Excipients

An excipient is an inactive substance used as a carrier for the active ingredients of a medication. In addition excipients can be used to aid the process by which a product is manufactured. Two common excipients – magnesium stearate and microcrystalline cellulose – were used as the samples for the wet and dry method development application notes. The LA-960 data shown below indicates the high degree of precision possible when following a structured approach to method development.

Table I: Review objectives.

In August 2001, FDA adopted and published the guidance for industry Q7A Good Manufacturing Practice Guidance for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients. This guidance was developed within the Expert Working Group of the International Conference on Harmonization of Technical Requirements for Registration of Pharmaceuticals for Human Use (ICH). This guidance was incorporated as Part II of the European Community Guide to GMP (EU GMP Guide) in October 2005. Sections 2.5 and 12.6 of this guidance specify and refer to the performance of a product quality review (PQR) for active ingredients (2).

The European Medicines Agency (EMEA) is the group responsible for coordinating the scientific evaluation of the safety, efficacy, and quality of medicinal products undergoing official review via the centralized or mutual recognition procedures. EMEA also proposes changes in pharmaceutical legislation for approval by the European Commission. The EU GMP Guide is the document that provides the details supporting the principles of GMPs within the EU. In 2004, EMEA made available for public comment a draft revision of the EU GMP Guide proposing, for the first time, a requirement for a PQR. The European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industry Associations (EFPIA), the Parenteral Drug Association (PDA), and other organizations and individual pharmaceutical companies provided comments to this draft revision. The European Commission officially announced the finalized revision to the EU GMP Guide in November 2005 with an effective date of January 2006. Chapter 1 of the GMP Guide now contains a requirement to perform a PQR (3). The European authorities stated that the industry generally should have the requested information available but acknowledged that it would take some time to “develop and establish a system and associated procedures to implement this new requirement”(4). PQRs for 2006 were to cover at least a six-month period with full annual reports required from 2007 onward.

Tables I–V provide a summary comparing the GMP requirements and guidance for the PAR/PQR among the US GMP (211.180(e)), the EU GMP (section 1.5), and the ICH Q7A (section 2.5). The authors used three terms for this comparison. “Required” means that the review action or item is specifically written in the regulations or guidance. “Expected, not specified” means that the review action or item is expected by the respective authorities but not written in the regulations or guidance. This review “expectation” is based on written guidance contained in other documents from the respective authorities, recurring citations in FDA 483s (the form used by investigators to record observations of noncompliance with CGMPs) and FDA warning letters, or an industry standard that has been recognized by authorities. “Not specified” means that the review action or item is not a current expectation from the respective authorities.

Ministers launch urgent inquiry into NHS officials – second jobs at drugs firms, pharmaceutical consulting

Ministers launch urgent inquiry into NHS officials’ second jobs at drugs firms

M inisters have launched an urgent inquiry into the practice of NHS staff being paid by drugs companies, following a Telegraph investigation.

This newspaper has revealed that more than 130 NHS officials involved in assessing which drugs are given to patients are also acting as paid consultants to pharmaceutical companies.

Scores of health service staff, most of whom are managers or other senior officials, are receiving generous fees to sit on “advisory boards” for drugs firms whose products they are responsible for considering on behalf of the NHS.

Alistair Burt, the health minister, said: “These are very serious allegations – an urgent investigation is under way and action will be taken against any NHS staff attempting to influence purchasing decisions in return for payment, gifts or hospitality.

“Our new Sunshine Rule, which comes into force later this year, will require staff to record and submit all dealings with pharmaceutical companies and medical device sectors.”

A spokesman for NHS England said that the behaviour reported by the Telegraph was “unacceptable”.

The NHS added that a proposed new standard contract for staff would introduce a requirement for any gifts and hospitality from drugs firms to be declared.

The move will make it easier to spot when NHS staff have a conflict of interest and allow those in breach of the rules to face disciplinary and possibly criminal action.

The proposed new contract comes after this newspaper previously exposed two officials being paid as middle-men to arrange lucrative advisory board meetings attended by NHS staff.

Today’s investigation, involving information from whistle-blowers and hundreds of Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, reveals that the practice of officials taking prescribing and “medicines management” roles while acting as consultants to drugs firms is systemic within the NHS.

MPs said the practice appeared “murky” because of the potential conflict of interest if the firms paying officials were also attempting to market their products. Several companies have been flying NHS staff abroad and hosting meetings in luxury hotels

In some cases, senior officials are attending more than 20 paid advisory boards each year and doing other pieces of consultancy work on top of their NHS jobs. Staff involved in assessing drugs for trusts and Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) are referred to by pharmaceutical firms as “payers” because many help control multi-million-pound budgets. A trawl of minutes of meetings, as well as emails obtained under FOI, has shown how several officials have gone on to take part in decisions about adopting the drugs on which they had been paid to advise the manufacturers.

In many cases the payments have not been formally declared, and in others CCGs and trusts have refused to give details of the amounts. The number of officials receiving funds from drugs firms is therefore likely to be higher than the FOI responses suggest.

Meg Hillier, chairman of the public accounts committee, said: “This shows a very worrying relationship between the people who decide which drugs to buy and their relationships with pharmaceutical companies. I am pleased that the Telegraph has shone some light on it. I will be suggesting to my committee that we look at it further.”

The investigation found:

– Individual “payers” are earning up to £1,250 per day advising pharmaceutical firms on selling their products to the NHS, in addition to flights and hotel costs for “meetings” held abroad.

– Three officials at one CCG, Luton, were flown separately to a German spa town for paid advisory board meetings. In December the industry regulator found that the company, Stirling Anglian, had lavished “unacceptable” levels of hospitality on NHS officials.

– Another firm, Hospira, hosted officials in the five-star Esplanade hotel in Zagreb, which has a spa and a casino.

– The industry is spending £30 million a year employing officials and doctors as consultants, and another £10 million sponsoring their attendance at events. In total, 138 officials responsible for advising or making decisions on drugs adopted by the

NHS were found to have been receiving payments from pharmaceutical firms, based on financial links that were formally registered.

In some cases, trusts and CCGs denied their staff had carried out consultancy work, before later admitting they had, when the Telegraph passed specific names to the organisations. The consultancy work ranges from taking part in teleconferences to attending advisory board meetings in locations including Munich, Amsterdam and Paris. Fees for the meetings are often between £700 and £1,000. One firm offered officials £1,250 for a four-hour meeting in Paris, as well as funding flight and hotel costs – equivalent to more than £300 per hour.

Ben Woodhouse, medicines optimisation lead at Bolton CCG, carried out 31 pieces of advisory work for pharmaceutical firms during 2014-15. He said the work, done around his 30-hour NHS week, helped “make best use” of funds as he could provide advice and ensure drugs comply with guidance.

One CCG banned its officials from taking part in advisory boards after being contacted about the outside work of staff. GlaxoSmithKline has quietly stopped using “payers” as consultants.

The NHS fraud watchdog is carrying out a criminal investigation into several officials and trusts at the centre of the Telegraph’s disclosures last year. One senior official, Paul Jerram of Isle of Wight CCG, who insisted he acted in the best interests of the NHS, has been sacked.

The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI), is due to create a database showing payments to doctors and officials in cases where the individuals have agreed to “opt in”.

Luton CCG said advisory board work was routinely declared and that it had “rigorous policies and procedures in place around the recommendation of any medicines”.

“Having a local option for college was very important to me – I couldn’t afford to leave the Dodge City area for school. Luckily, I was able to live and work locally while getting a quality education at the same time.

While at DC3, I spent most of my time participating in the music department, learning music theory and participating in band and vocal music. Along with the great memories, I’ve retained my sight-singing skills, which still help me today.

“Having an academic scholarship that covered the full cost of my tuition and books to a school that was just two hours from my hometown made going to DC3 a no-brainer for me. And because all of my credits transferred easily, it gave me the start I needed to go on and complete my nursing degree at Grand Canyon University.

Today, I am enjoying a successful career as the director of nursing at an outpatient surgery center that serves approximately 500 cases per month. So, yes, going to DC3 was certainly the right choice for me.

“Attending Dodge City Community College helped me take classes with a small student to professor ratio. After graduation, it helped with a smooth transition to a larger university. It made sense economically and provided a stellar education at the same time.

“I first came to DC3 all the way from Canada for the golf team, but I stayed the second year as a student only to complete my associate’s degree. What a difference it’s made! After graduation, I got a job with Starbucks and was quickly able to make my way into helping manage the store. Four years later, I became a digital content producer and copywriter for a digital advertising agency, where I still work today.

I wouldn’t have traded my experience being a Conq for anything. Without the knowledge and people skills I gained and the support of my professors, I wouldn’t be where I am today. And to top it all off, I created lasting memories and friendships that I will cherish forever. I also ate the best biscuits and gravy I’ve ever had – something we don’t have up here in Canada!

“I wouldn’t have gotten to where I am today without the amazing faculty and learning environment at DC3. With the ongoing support of the instructors and staff, I was able to achieve more in the field of biochemistry than I ever thought was possible.

My favorite DC3 memories involve spending time studying organic chemistry with my friends in the Academic Success Center. I also remember the profound impact of Dr. Ellis, who sparked my passion for biochemistry in the first place.

I owe so much to the staff of DC3 for helping me transfer to Kansas State University to complete my biochemistry degree with the help of the Bridges to the Future program. That was the first step to where I am now – at the University of Southern California working to get both a PhD in pharmaceutical science and a master’s degree in management of drug development. And I owe it all to DC3.

Health Care Salary Online, pharmaceutical technician salary.#Pharmaceutical #technician #salary

Health Care Salary Online

H ealth Care Salary online information is available for over 55 occupations. Have you ever thought “gee I wonder what a certified physical therapy assistant does? and how much do they get paid anyway?” This site answers that question for over 55 health care occupations. Everything from the anesthesiologist’s salary to a veterinary technician salary.

Health care salaries vary depending on a variety of factors that include complexity of the work involved, amount of education required, supply and demand, and even geographical area. Other factors can include the amount of independent function allowed.

Virtually all healthcare professionals and occupations are regulated to some extent by the different states. Different licensing or certifications are required and vary slightly from state to state. As a part of that regulation certain minimum education along with a specified amount of hands on training will be required.

Video Series: Healthcare Occupations and Salaries

The on the job training requirements are called internships, clinical, or п»їpracticum’s. Regardless of what they are called most healthcare workers are required to perform from around 40 hours to potentially thousands of hours of specific on the job training related to the profession they desire to enter.

Approximately 99% of all healthcare occupations are listed by the US Department of Labor. They are classified into two broad categories; called Healthcare Practitioner and Technical Occupations, and Healthcare Support Occupations. The average health care salary varies widely from not much more than minimum wage to some of the highest paid individuals in the U.S.

The information offered here is a snapshot of the health care salaries earned by approximately 90% of all healthcare workers in the United States. Salaries may often vary widely from one state to another even from one city to another. Many factors go into determining wages. Market demand, economics, availability of workers, education level, and even politics influence the wages and benefits offered.

Salary information for health care workers can be confusing. The U.S. Department of Labor compiles data that is comprised primarily of employers. Many health care providers are self-employed and a variety of accounting methods are in practice. Very often the data conflicts between different sources. Where we can verify the salary information as being credible we use that data.

We have included the job descriptions for health care occupations including the requirements, education, work conditions, and duties.

Salary and Job Forecasts

Health care salaries and jobs are forecast to see modest increases over the next few years. Many healthcare occupations are in high demand and expected to see better than average increases in wages.

Additionally, healthcare jobs are being added faster than almost any other career field. Healthcare laws are changing. The reimbursement model for healthcare services is being constantly scrutinized for ways to improve efficiency and link payments to outcomes.

According to the U.S. bureau of labor statistics (BLS) there are 7,649,930 healthcare practitioners and technical workers earning a healthcare salary in the United States. The median hourly wage is $28.94. The mean hourly salary is $35.35 and the mean annual salary is $73,540. The lowest paid earn less than $50,00 per year while the highest paid earn over well over $300,000 per year.

In the healthcare support occupations the U.S. BLS lists 3,915,460 workers. The median hourly pay is $12.28. The mean hourly pay is $13.36 and the annual mean pay is $27,780. The lowest paid workers earn less than 22,000 per while the highest earn a healthcare salary of over $50,000 per year.

The three top areas where all healthcare workers are employed are hospitals, medical offices, and nursing care facilities (skilled nursing). Additional places where they work include pharmacies, federal and state employment, home health, personal care services, universities, pharmaceutical, medical device companies, and administrative positions.

Patterson Companies Names Mark Walchirk President and CEO

Names of pharmaceutical companies

ST. PAUL, Minn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–

Patterson Companies, Inc. (PDCO) today named Mark Walchirk President and Chief Executive Officer, effective November 20, 2017. He will succeed James Wiltz, who will continue to serve as Interim President and Chief Executive Officer until that time and will remain on the Patterson Board following the transition. Mr. Walchirk will also become a member of the Board, which will be expanded to include nine directors, as of the effective date.

Mr. Walchirk joins Patterson with nearly 30 years of experience in healthcare services and distribution, including 16 successful years at McKesson Corporation, a global leader in healthcare supply chain management solutions, retail pharmacy, community oncology and specialty care, and healthcare information technology. There, he most recently served as President of U.S. Pharmaceutical, the largest business unit within McKesson’s North America pharmaceutical distribution services segment. In that role, Mr. Walchirk was responsible for leading over 7,500 employees across all disciplines and delivering strong financial results. He brings deep experience in leading a complex, sales-driven organization, managing a growing, state-of-the art distribution network, and fostering innovative offerings to meet customers’ needs.

“After a thorough search, we are pleased to have found such an exceptional leader and operator as Mark to lead Patterson going forward,” said John D. Buck, Chairman. “Mark has a proven track record of success in helping a large and complex market leader navigate through an evolving and dynamic environment to achieve growth. Patterson will benefit from his customer-first mindset, focus on operational excellence, and ability to develop unique solutions to create value for our partners, customers, and shareholders. The Board is confident that Mark is the right person to guide the continued evolution and growth of our business in the years ahead.”

Mr. Buck continued, “I would also like to thank Jim Wiltz for his contributions as Interim President and CEO. Under Jim’s leadership, Patterson has continued to take actions to strengthen our sales execution and technology platforms in Dental, improve Animal Health margins, and implement our enterprise resource system to drive greater efficiencies across the entire business. We look forward to continuing to benefit from Jim’s valuable experience as an ongoing member of the Board.”

Mr. Walchirk said, “Patterson is a great company with a proud history and an extraordinary opportunity to leverage its position in its markets to deliver great service and solutions to customers and value to shareholders. I am honored and excited to help lead the team during this transformative time, and I look forward to working closely with the Board and management team to drive Patterson’s continued success.”

Mark Walchirk Biography

Mr. Walchirk, 51, served as President of U.S. Pharmaceutical at McKesson Corporation since October 2012, where he held responsibility for McKesson’s U.S. Pharmaceutical sales, distribution and customer service operations. Mr. Walchirk joined McKesson in April 2001 and held various leadership positions, including President of McKesson Specialty Care Solutions and Chief Operating Officer of McKesson U.S. Pharmaceutical. Before joining McKesson, he spent 13 years in medical-surgical distribution and manufacturing with Baxter Healthcare, Allegiance Healthcare and Encompass Group, holding various leadership positions in sales, marketing, operations and business development. Mr. Walchirk earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois.

Disclosure of employment inducement grant in accordance with NASDAQ rules: Patterson’s employment agreement with Mr. Walchirk provides for the issuance of an inducement award. On December 1, 2017, Patterson will grant Mr. Walchirk a restricted stock unit award covering a number of shares of Patterson common stock with a value of $2 million based on the per-share closing price of Patterson’s common stock on the grant date. Such award will vest, assuming continued employment, to the extent of 50% of the award on the first anniversary of the grant date and the remaining 50% of the award on the second anniversary of the grant date. The other terms and conditions of the inducement award are set forth in the form of award agreement to be filed with the SEC. Sharps Disposal Service, Initial UK, pharmaceutical disposal.#Pharmaceutical #disposal

    Sharps Disposal

The safe management and disposal of sharps waste is vital to ensure the risks associated with handling sharps are eliminated and to ensure compliance with the Hazardous Waste Regulations (Special Waste Regulations in Scotland).

The disposal of sharps waste is determined by the medicinal contamination. This contamination determines the colour of disposal bin required for the type of sharps waste that is being disposed of.

What items are classed as ‘sharps’?

    • Syringes
    • Hypodermic needles
    • Scalpels
    • Razors and razor blades
    • Phials
    • Pipettes
    • Test tubes
    • Glass (broken or intact)

To ensure compliance with the Hazardous Waste Regulations (Special Waste Regulations in Scotland) the correct segregation, storage and disposal of sharps waste is essential. The Health Technical Memorandum 07-01: Safe Management of Healthcare Waste sets out guidelines on the safe and legal disposal of sharps waste using a colour coded scheme.

    Sharps Injuries

Injuries caused by sharps waste can pose a serious threat to the health and well being of anyone handling sharps due to the exposure to blood borne viruses.

    Pharmaceutical disposal

We provide a range of UN approved colour coded sharps disposal bins and a waste collection service that allows you to safely and legally dispose of all medical sharps paraphernalia; including hypodermic syringes and scalpels.

Working with you, we can help identify the type and frequency of sharps waste that is to be disposed of, enabling us to tailor a solution to suit your individual requirements.

    HOW IT WORKS

Rx Destroyer™ patented solution begins dissolving medications and permanently bonding medications to solution’s activated charcoal immediately. Once medications attach to activated charcoal they are effectively irretrievable requiring 1,700°F for molecular release. At this temperature, metals such as brass and silver melt and drug adsorbents mineralized to carbon dioxide water.

Activated carbon is also commonly found in municipalities waste treatment plants, hospitals to treat poisoning, drinking water filtration , and air purification systems. Rx Destroyer™ solution has been uniquely formulated to be the most affordable, fastest and safest system on the market.

Patented solution is considered Non-Retrievable according to the DEA standard.

Rx Destroyer™ drug disposal products are utilized in-home and in a large spectrum of businesses. Rx Destroyer™ recognizes disposal processes and regulations vary from state-to-state and business-to-business. In fact, certain businesses standardize on incineration as a final means of destruction. Although it may be safe to dispose in common trash for some users, always be aware of facility, local, state, or tribal requirements which may prohibit discarding Rx Destroyer™ to common trash.

Great never just happens. It’s crafted. It’s inspired. It’s insisted upon. There is a world of difference between excuse and reason. Yes. There are tons of reasons why the limitations of healthcare could limit its promotional expression, but we’ve decided to never let those stand as excuses for not doing the great thing. There’s always a way. And that way is our every day.

    Indian Pharmaceutical Industry

“The Indian pharmaceutical industry is a success story providing employment for millions and ensuring that essential drugs at affordable prices are available to the vast population of this sub-continent.”

The Indian Pharmaceutical Industry today is in the front rank of India s science-based industries with wide ranging capabilities in the complex field of drug manufacture and technology. It ranks very high in the third world, in terms of technology, quality and range of medicines manufactured. From simple headache pills to sophisticated antibiotics and complex cardiac compounds, almost every type of medicine is now made indigenously.

Playing a key role in promoting and sustaining development in the vital field of medicines, Indian Pharma Industry boasts of quality producers and many units approved by regulatory authorities in USA and UK. International companies associated with this sector have stimulated, assisted and spearheaded this dynamic development in the past 53 years and helped to put India on the pharmaceutical map of the world.

    Growth Scenario in 2010

India’s pharmaceutical industry is now the third largest in the world in terms of volume. Its rank is 14th in terms of value. Between September 2008 and September 2009, the total turnover of India’s pharmaceuticals industry was US$ 21.04 billion. The domestic market was worth US$ 12.26 billion. This was reported by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. As per a report by IMS Health India, the Indian pharmaceutical market reached US$ 10.04 billion in size in July 2010. A highly organized sector, the Indian Pharma Industry is estimated to be worth $ 4.5 billion, growing at about 8 to 9 percent annually. Know more out this in our article on Indian Pharmaceutical Industry- Future Trends Also check out Pharmaceutical Market Trends 2010

    Leading Pharmaceutical Companies

In the domestic market, Cipla retained its leadership position with 5.27 per cent share. Ranbaxy followed next. The highest growth was for Mankind Pharma (37.2%). Other leading companies in the Indian pharma market in 2010 are:

    • Sun Pharma (25.7%)
    • Abbott (25%)
    • Zydus Cadila (24.1%)
    • Alkem Laboratories (23.3%)
    • Pfizer (23.6 %)
    • GSK India (19%)
    • Piramal Healthcare (18.6 %)
    • Lupin (18.8 %)

For details check out List of Top 10 Pharmaceutical Companies in India

    Future Prospects

The Indian pharmaceuticals market is expected to reach US$ 55 billion in 2020 from US$ 12.6 billion in 2009. This was stated in a report title India Pharma 2020: Propelling access and acceptance, realising true potential by McKinsey Company. In the same report, it was also mentioned that in an aggressive growth scenario, the pharma market has the further potential to reach US$ 70 billion by 2020

Due to increase in the population of high income group, there is every likelihood that they will open a potential US$ 8 billion market for multinational companies selling costly drugs by 2015. This was estimated in a report by Ernst Young. The domestic pharma market is estimated to touch US$ 20 billion by 2015. The healthcare market in India to reach US$ 31.59 billion by 2020. The sale of all types of pharmaceutical drugs and medicines in the country stands at US$ 9.61 billion, which is expected to reach around US$ 19.22 billion by 2012. Thus India would really become a lucrative destination for clinical trials for global giants.

    Characteristics of Indian Pharmaceutical Industry

The Indian Pharmaceutical sector is highly fragmented with more than 20,000 registered units. It has expanded drastically in the last two decades. The leading 250 pharmaceutical companies control 70% of the market with market leader holding nearly 7% of the market share. It is an extremely fragmented market with severe price competition and government price control.

    Why India?

Competent workforce: India has a pool of personnel with high managerial and technical competence as also skilled workforce. It has an educated work force and English is commonly used. Professional services are easily available.

    Steps to strengthen the Industry

Indian companies need to attain the right product-mix for sustained future growth. Core competencies will play an important role in determining the future of many Indian pharmaceutical companies in the post product-patent regime after 2005. Indian companies, in an effort to consolidate their position, will have to increasingly look at merger and acquisition options of either companies or products. This would help them to offset loss of new product options, improve their R D efforts and improve distribution to penetrate markets.

Ampoules are used to contain pharmaceuticals formulations and chemicals that must be protected from air and contaminants.

Ampoules are produced from short lengths of glass tubing, shaped by heating with gas torches and gravity in automated production lines. Computer vision techniques are employed for quality control. Our automated machinery does the filling and sealing of ampoules.

A vial is a relatively small glass vessel or bottle, especially used to store medication as liquids.

CIRON manufactures and supplies a wide range of ear / eye / nasal drops for various ailments. Developed after extensive research, these are high in effectiveness and provide quick relief. Our ear / eye / nasal drops are available in glass vials as well as in sterilized plastic bottles with effective and attractive packaging.

Lyophilized products are rarely manufactured in India being a niche field. Lyophilized is a dehydration process typically used to preserve a perishable material and to make the material more convenient for the transport. Lyophilized works by freezing the material and then reducing the surrounding pressure and adding enough heat to allow the frozen water in the material to sublime directly from the solid phase to the gas phase. By removing the water from the material and sealing the material in a vial, the material can be easily stored, shipped, and later reconstituted to its original form.

WHO urges governments to take action

    Pharmaceutical classes

Geneva, 28 November 2017: An estimated 1 in 10 medical products circulating in low- and middle-income countries is either substandard or falsified, according to new research from the World Health Organization (WHO). This means that people are taking medicines that fail to treat or prevent disease.

WHO outlines requirements for rapid cholera tests to prevent major outbreaks

    Pharmaceutical classes

In order to treat cholera and quickly stem a potential outbreak, it is important to have a rapid and accurate diagnosis, particularly in countries with weak health systems and sanitation, which are the ones most vulnerable to outbreaks of the disease. Rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) for cholera exist, but recent published evaluations show their accuracy is not optimal.

To that end, WHO has developed a target product profile, describing the type of assays and their key attributes that are needed in the efforts to detect a cholera outbreak. The target product profile can be used in development of a new diagnostic assay as it provides a clear and tangible vision and focus for product development.

WHO prequalifies indoor residual spray for vector control

    Pharmaceutical classes

WHO has prequalified SumiShield 50WG as an indoor residual spray intended to kill malaria-carrying mosquitoes. This development provides procurement agencies and countries with a new tool to prevent the transmission of vector-borne diseases like malaria.

New WHO report confirms world is running out of antibiotics

    Pharmaceutical classes

A new report launched on 19 September finds that very few antibiotics currently in development address the serious and growing threat of antimicrobial resistance. “Antibacterial agents in clinical development – an analysis of the antibacterial clinical development pipeline, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis” shows that most of the drugs currently in the clinical pipeline are modifications of existing classes of antibiotics and are only short-term solutions. The report found very few potential treatment options for drug-resistant tuberculosis and 12 other classes of priority pathogens identified by WHO.
